The Gambia

The Gambia is the smallest country in Africa but it is known as the country with the biggest heart! With only 50 miles of coastline it has some of the most magnificent beaches in the world.  If you are looking for relaxing days on the beach and hitting the dancefloors in the evening there is Sanyang Beach, Kokoli and Serekunda.

But there is so much more to do than just sit on the beach enjoying the sun and the sea.

Some of the most popular tourist attractions are Kunta Kinteh Island (formerly James Island) home to a 17th century British colonial fort, the Gambia National Park which will give you a chance to see chimpanzees, baboons and crocodiles, or a boat trip down the Gambian River.  For the thrill seekers, there are 4x4 adventures visiting local communities or the Kachikally Crocodile pools, where you can stroke or pat a West African Nile Crocodile!

After an adventurous day patting crocodiles, there is the diverse cuisine to enjoy.  Dishes like Benachin, a West African rice dish with spices meat and vegetables, or Domoda, a local meat stew made with peanut butter.  Wash it all down with a nice cold Julbrew, Gambia’s own brewed beer, or even a Palm wine in more rural locations.

Whether you want relaxation or adventure, Gambia has a lot to offer, including 5* hotels or more eco-friendly accommodation in natural surroundings.

Once you’ve booked your great holiday to The Gambia, it’s time to think about your travel health!  Vaccinations recommended for all travellers are Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid.  For more high risk travellers you may also require Hepatitis B, Meningitis, Rabies and Cholera.  Anti-malarial treatment is highly recommended for your trip to the high risks to malaria in the area.
